Yellow Diarrea and Skin Rash
Since I had my appendix and gallbladder out a few months ago, I've had constant diarrea. It's always within 15 minutes of eating, and I feel like I'm always running to the bathroom. If it isn't that, I'm throwing it up. My stools went from brown to yellow, and they've been yellow for a few days with pain in the upper right of my stomach. I also keep getting these hard blisters that have clear liquid in them and itch. I've been getting them for months, and I've used everything to try to get rid of them...but they keep popping up. They're mainly on my feet, legs, arms, and stomach. Is this something I should be concerned with?
Causes of Yellow Diarrhea
Sorry to hear you have been unwell. There are a few possibilities here. The yellow diarrhea after cholecystectomy is not uncommon and can be caused by Bile acid diarrhea. Bile salts normally help with fat absorption, but excessive amounts of bile acid can cause diarrhea. It can be treated with low fat diet, sometimes Cholestyramine which can bind the acid or Sucralfate. You might like to discuss this with your doctor.
The other possibilities may include small bowel bacterial overgrowth where the bacterial content of the small bowel can be upset, particularly after surgery or antibiotic use.
A rash with yellow diarrhea could be due to Coeliac (celiac) disease and a condition called dermatitis herpetaformis and you can read more about this in the celiac section of the website.
Hope this helps.
