Watering Eyes

Lately I have been having watery eyes. I don't think they are allergy related because I don't have watery eyes at home, and have never had allergies before. They don't seem to be dry, just watery. How should I treat my eyes? Eye drops?

Answer: Watering Eyes

Watering eyes are due either because of excessive tear production or blocked ducts that drain the fluid from the eye to the nasopharynx. Conditions such as infections, foreign bodies, allergies and even paradoxically dry eyes can cause symptoms of excessive tear production. Treatment of this depends on which of the above causes the symptoms.

Blocked ducts can sometimes be cleared with injecting salty water (saline) through the duct. Insertion of a tiny stent to keep the duct open is sometimes deployed.
