Trial and error
by Karen
(Alberta, Canada)
After developing severe IBS among other GI problems from taking two course of anti-biotics within 6 months of each other I've experimented with a number of probiotics. Not all products available on the market are good and the ones that are good (ie: have been studied, high quality, work well for all people.
I've found the best results from trying a number of products and combining them, not just sticking to one strain.
It's helpful to check out the strains in your probiotic on PubMed; if you can't find it there it hasn't been studied and won't necessarily be of any benefit. Considering the high price of some probiotics products it's a good idea to check it out before purchasing.
If the first one you try doesn't work keep looking. There are many studies that indicate probiotics are beneficial for IBS (among other problems) and it takes some time to find the right combination.
Good luck!
