Swollen behind both knees
There is swelling behind both of my knees and some discomfort (not painful) in one knee with some discomfort sometimes in that calf. I haven't banged or injured my knee. When I bend the thigh and calf at 90 degrees the swelling is no longer there. I noticed it about 2 weeks ago when I was on a road trip. Any ideas?
Swellings behind both knees
The main causes of swellings behind your knee are:
1) Varicose veins - dilated veins that become swollen and can be mildly uncomfortable. They are sometimes associated with blood clots in the deep veins or DVT.
2) Bilateral Bakers cysts. These are swellings that occur from the knee joint that can rupture and cause pain and swelling.
4) Bilateral Popliteal aneurysms. These are dilated, thin walled arteries that can rupture and with serious consequences. They should feel pulsatile if you have these.
5) Skin lesions e.g a lipoma or fatty swelling.
6) Various knee joint problems.
If you are concerned about this, ask a doctor to take a look at them.
