Can you explain what this report means?
The previously seen enhancing right lower pole renal mass with necrotic centre remains unchanged in size and appearance. The right renal artery and vein are patent. There are multiple shotty pelvic nodes seen.
There are scattered area of lung fibrosis and bronchiectatic changes noted, as seen before. No suspicious metastatic lung lesion seen.
Interpretation Of Scan Result
The scan has shown a tumour in the right kidney. This is highly suggestive of a cancer tumour, although can only be definitely confirmed by removal or taking a piece of tissue away, known as a biopsy. Necrosis means that the tissue has broken down within the centre of this tumour, the size of which has not changed from your previous scan. Shotty pelvic nodes refers to lymph glands that are prominent, but not diagnostic of any tumour spread within these glands.
Lung fibrosis is a scarring within the lungs and is usually of unknown cause. Bronchiectasis is a specific lung problem that has many different causes, often childhood infection. The smaller airways become scarred and open resulting in increased mucus within, chronic cough with excessive sputum production and can cause recurrent infection.
The no metastatic lung lesion means that there is no evidence of tumour that can spread from the kidney tumour to the lung.
In summary this looks like Kidney or Renal Cell carcinoma or cancer in the lower part of the kidney, with no definite evidence of spread. There is also evidence of some chronic lung disease on this scan
