Physical Effects of Alcohol On My Body - The Alcohol Effects On The Body
| Learn the physical effects of alcohol. Find out the alcohol effects on the body. |
By Megan, USA
"I'm a 25 yr old white, non-smoking female and have been having very strange physical effects of alcohol lately. I almost want to say that I've become allergic to it, all kinds, beer, wine and liquor. I'll go to the bar and have half a glass of wine with dinner and be perfectly fine and go to bed without any problem. I'll then wake up in the morning with a little tummy ache and within an hour I’m vomiting. This usually lasts until around noon and then I’m perfectly fine again. When I am sick, its mostly dry heaving or just yellowish bile from my stomach. I also get very "burby" and often get the hiccups. I'll feel MUCH better after vomiting but then within the hour I’ll start feeling very sick again. The worst reaction is with beer followed by wine and then hard liquor. I've never been a heavy drinker and am not on any medications other than Birth Control and I’m an active healthy person. Any suggestions as to what this is and why it happened over night?"
Medical Advice On The Alcohol Effects On The Body
Two conditions come to mind with your symptoms. The first is alcohol sensitivity which could give rise to your physical effects of alcohol. Alcohol is handled have an enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase which breaks down alcohol in to non-toxic substances that the body can clear. If you are deficient in this enzyme, you can experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, blood pressure problems and headache. Sadly, if you are deficient then all you can really do is avoid alcohol.
The second condition that could account for the physical effects on your body is coeliac disease. It is a condition where the small bowel is sensitive to wheat, rye and barley. These can often be found in alcohol, particularly beer. You can read more about

The fact that beer is the worst alcohol for causing your symptoms would back up this possibility. You should have an antibody blood test to see if you have this condition.
