Abdominal Pain and Rectal Bleeding

I'm passing blood, from my anus, and I was wondering why this might be. The blood is fresh, bright red, and this has happened occasionally for many years, as long as I can remember.

I'm 32, Male, and in general good health It tends to last a few days and then stops, which is why I've never though to get check out. I have always assumed it has something to do with my stomach as I often get trapped wind or diarrhoea. I've tried to pin down the cause of this but just got used to the fact that I have various intolerances, possibly IBS, and things such as red meat and dairy affect me badly one way or the other.

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

I suspect the cause for your bleeding is hemorrhoids or piles. However, you mention that you have suffered from abdominal pain and rectal bleeding for some time now with associated diarrhea. This could indicate a form of colitis or inflammation of the large bowel and you should clearly have this investigated further as treatment for this is different. IBS-D and hemmorhoids are another cause so you are quite right to think of this as a possible cause. A gastroenterologist would be able to confirm the diagnosis for you.
