Off food and nauseous

by corrie
(lafayette louisiana)

I am a 60 year old female who runs everyday, weighs 115 lbs.and is going through a tough time---I have been severely nauseated for 6 days--have had abdominal ultrasound(negative)--blood work (slightly elevated bilirubin)--I can't eat and am not hungry--having a HIBA scan in morning---have no right side abdominal or rib pain---have pain in left ribs sometimes which I have had for almost 4 years on and off but never with this nausea--had CT scan two years ago for pain (Negative)--I also have intermittent diarrhea---feel terrible---question 1---can one have gallbladder disease with right quadrant pain? If HIBA scan shows a normal gallbladder, what could be wrong? Actually have had some queasiness for over three weeks with intermittent diarrhea---Dr gave Zomed--helps a little but is there a better anti-nausea?

Nausea and Off Food

This doesn’t sound like a gallbladder problem to me. You mention no right side abdominal pain although pain in the left ribs, then mention can one have gallbladder disease with right quadrant pain? Nausea, diarrhea and being off food are worrying symptoms. Whilst the short time frame could mean an infective cause, other problems such as cancer should be excluded. Pancreatic cancer can present in this way. Ultrasound is not a good way of seeing this and you may need a repeat CT scan. Ovarian cancer can also present this way too.

There are also numerous bowel conditions that can present this way and you may need an endoscopy and colonoscopy to look at this in more detail. I’m not sure what Zomed is (I looked on the internet, but couldn’t find it) so I can’t really advise on the antisickness medication. Have you spelt it correctly? Do you know the actual drug name (known as the generic name?).
