Nipple Bleeding - A Breast Cancer First Sign
| About nipple bleeding causes. A breast cancer first sign to be concerned about. |
I've been noticing dried blood spots on my left inverted breast for more than 3 weeks now. I’m 19 years old and a Filipino. I’m not pregnant and never engaged on any sexual activities. I'm so worried and I have already sought the help of 2 doctors, the first one advised me to take antibiotics (3 times a day, 500mg) for 5 days and topical antibiotic for 10 days nothing happened and my nipple is still bleeding. That’s why I sought another doctor who advised me to take antibiotics too for 5 days (3 times a day, 500mg), antihistamine for 10 days and topical corticosteroid for my nipple. We also have had my CBC but the results are all normal. I need your advise please, I know it is not normal. Can you tell me what to do?
Advice On: Nipple Bleeding, A Breast Cancer First Sign?
A bleeding nipple can occur for many different reasons. It can be due to a skin condition affecting the breast and nipple such as dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and a rash associated with breast cancer called Paget’s disease of the nipple. Conditions of the duct, such as an infection or a tiny benign tumour called a ductal papilloma can cause bleeding and discharge. Breast pains would normally favour an infection, although not exclusively. Problems with the breast tissue itself can give rise to bleeding from the nipple. Examples of this include mastitis (an infection), abscess, fibroadenoma’s and breast cancer. In fact, bleeding can be a breast cancer first sign. Trauma to the breast and excessive sucking of the breast can also cause the nipple to bleed. You should have this investigated further by your doctor and I can understand your concern as the treatments you have been offered have failed to improve the bleeding. I presume you have had your breast examined by these 2 doctors, but it sounds to me as if you need investigations such as ultrasound, mammogram and biopsy may be required. The only thing you can do in this situation is to go back to them and tell them your concerns that this could be a breast cancer first sign and that you want it investigated further.
