nausea
by Luz
(Madison,IN,USA)
I've been having nausea for almost a month now and for 2 weeks they were accompanied by dizziness. I'm 20 yrs old. I used to take Yaz 3mg (birth control) and Spironolactone 25mg (I took this one to decrease hair growth). Right now I'm only taking Vitamin C and some natural pills for fertility. I don't ovulate and I rarely get my menstrual period. My family history includes cancer, diabetes, and heart problems, but thankfully I don't suffer from any of these.
I started to take the natural pills around December (2-3 months ago). I still didn't get my period but my right Ovary did hurt as if I was ovulating, so I took it as a good sign. In January I stopped taking them because I was sexually active with my boyfriend and I didn't wanted to get pregnant because he had to go back to Scotland. Around a week after I became sexually active I started to feel nauseous and dizzy, I thought I was pregnant so I took 2 home pregnancy tests, one week apart and both read negative. It's been nearly a month since I became nauseous and it hasn't stopped. I still haven't got my period but I'm irregular and because I was told I dont ovulate, I really don't know what to think.
Nausea and amenorrhea
Nausea has so many causes, but in your case, I wonder about several different things. The first is that you could still be pregnant despite the previous negative pregnancy tests and I would suggest repeating this again or ask your doctor to do a beta HCG test. My second thought is whether the drugs are causing the nausea. Im not sure when you stopped the Spironolactone, but this can cause nausea in some people. The natural pills for fertility I dont know about, but maybe relevant. Do you know whats in them? The third possibility could be linked to your amenorrhea. There are various causes of amenorrhea. Have you been investigated for causes of this as it is not normal for a 20 year old girl not to ovulate? One hormonal condition that could cause nausea and amenorrhea is Addisons disease. This is a condition of the adrenal gland due to lack of steroid production.
Why were you suppressing hair growth? This could also be relevant to all of this. There are other causes of nausea, including reflux, pancreatic problems, brain diseases, psychological problems, problems with the inner ear and many more, but I think these problems are less likely.
I would suggest seeing your doctor, as you may need investigation for this. However, I would start with the pregnancy test first and see where you go from there. If you have got a hormonal condition, this could cause a false negative pregnancy test.
