I've been bothered with trapped wind on and off for many years, but its got really bad since a year ago when my stress levels shot up due to several deaths in the family, then IBS symptoms appeared.
I find it helps my symptoms if I keep on a regular routine, i.e. bed by around 10.00pm; avoid coffee and alcohol totally. Cutting out yeast, and sugary foods, sweets, cakes etc, has also helped my wind and IBS.
I do TM meditation and simple yoga postures twice a day and these have been invaluable in keeping me on an even keel physically and mentally.
I also find that the Ayurvedic system of natural healthcare has a lot to offer. For example, in Ayurveda an imblance of gas or wind is termed a 'Vata imbalance' (try Googling: 'How to balance vata'.
Other things I find helpful in controlling wind are fennel seeds. I add four teaspoons of fennel seeds to a flask of hot water then sip it over the next few hours. Its amazing. Then I top up the flask with boiling water again using the same seeds. Or you could use fennel teabags but they arrent as strong as seeds, unless you use 2 per cup. Drinking just plain boiled water is also good (boil and let it cool a bit, or add some cold, then sip).
I also take peppermint tea to reduce acid, and sometimes bircarbonate of soda.
May the wind be behind you :)
