Minor slipped disc.

by hanna
(Malaysia)

Hello doc, I’m a 21 years old, female who for the last 4 months has had a terrible problem due to a minor slipped disc. I did MRI test and my doc said I had a problem with L5 L4 S1. There is no family history with a back pain or nerve problem within my family.

I was hospitalized for about 8 days. I had physiotherapy for my back pain, but I knew that my pain would not recover that fast, although thankfully after a few months I can now walk fast but still not as fast as I used too.

What I want to know now is, lately (I mean this month) I can now feel an ache in my knees. I think the mixture of weakness and pain in my knees may be related to my back. I don't know weather it is related or not, but sometimes when I walk, I can't stabilise myself and I badly need a bed to lay down on.

I didn't have any medication when I was out from the hospital other than painkillers, but I didn’t take it.

I hope you can tell me why I feel weak and tired. Sometimes I get headaches as well, but not that often.

Back pain, Weak Knees and Tiredness

I note your back pain has improved, but you still have knee pain and weakness. This would suggest nerve impingement and may need to be treated surgically. I note you had an MRI that showed some issues with L4/5 and S1. I guess there wasn’t anything to treat surgically at the time, but things may have progressed now and I would suggest that you go back to have this checked.

As for the tiredness, this is not too surprising taking in to account all that you have been through. This is likely to improve once your back has been sorted out.
