Inflammatory diarrhea (inflammatory diarrhoea)
Inflammatory diarrhea (inflammatory diarrhoea)
occurs due to mucosal damage (damage to the lining of the bowel). This causes loss of fluid and blood to occur with resultant bloody diarrhea. The most common cause is infection, but there are other causes.

Inflammatory bowel disease symptoms include:
Ulcerative colitis
Ulcerative colitis is a form of inflammatory bowel disease that affects the large bowel or colon. Ulcerative colitis symptoms include diarrhea, sometimes bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, weight loss, joint pains, skin rashes (erythema nodosum, pyoderma gangrenosum), liver problems (sclerosing cholangitis), eye problems (uveitis) and increased bowel cancer risk. Ulcerative colitis symptoms vary between different individuals and can be low grade to life threatening. Some symptoms of ulcerative colitis can be non-specific such as tiredness, poor sleep patern and nausea. These symptoms of ulcerative colitis should be considered in anyone presenting with inflammatory diarrhea symptoms.
Crohns disease
What is crohns diease? It is another form of inflammatory bowel disease. It can affect anywhere from the mouth to the back passage, including any part of your bowel. Symptoms of Crohns disease may include diarrhea, sometimes bloody, abdominal pain, weight loss (usually more profound than ulcerative colitis), joint pains, liver symptoms (sclerosing cholangitis, gallstones), eye symptoms (uveitis/iritis), skin rashes similar to ulcerative colitis. Symptoms of Crohns disease can also be non-specific including nausea, vomiting, tiredness, anorexia and poor sleep patern.
