Infected hair follicle
by Nick
(Minnesota)
This is it
About a week ago I had a pimple on my lip and I scratched it practically raw and a scab formed on it and around it. The next day I shaved down there. About a day later, I noticed a large pimple looking thing. I left it alone and it popped on its own two days ago. It looked kind of like a open blister, but the pain went away the next day and now it looks like a scabbed up open sore. I didnt see what came out first but I know there was blood. My question is could I have developed herpes on my lip from scratching it and then touched down there and developed herpes? or did I just get an ingrown hair from shaving with beard trimmer? ps. there are little red dots around it too.
Pimple or Foliculitis
This looks like a pimple or folliculitis, an infection at the base of the hair follicle. You can get surrounding infections too and I think this is what you have. It should settle, but don’t pick at the spot. You could try applying an antiseptic cream such as Chlorhexidine too. I don’t think this is a herpetic lesion so I can reassure you about this.
