IBS for 8 years

Have had IBS for about 8 yrs but the last 1-2 yrs. it has gotten worse. I also have Fibromyalgia,Osteoporosis,Scoliosis and a Laminectomey at right hip so it is hard to determine just what is causing a lot of the pain. I have IBS-C and pass only small amounts at a time, then will have a large movement, maybe once a week. Recently have a lot of aching in lower back/hips, upper legs, and sometimes abdomen. I had a cat-scan of my abdomen and only thing it showed is a shrunken pancreas ( prob. connected with my Diabetes ).

I have tried some meds but they did not seen to do much. Didn't bother to go back to the Dr. as I don't like to take a lot of medications. Most of my pain comes on when I lie down, if I am up moving around, it is much less. Also feel as if there is pressure around the rectal area.

Wondering if anyone else has pain in this manner?

Hi there! Some of your symptoms I did tend to have. I have had IBS-C for a couple years but was just diagnosed with it earlier this year. The pain was terrible. I have a bowel movement once a week. I was bloated, and felt pain and weakness everyday due to this. I couldn't be around friends due to me feeling irritated constantly. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed and got Amitiza. It was AWFUL. THe side effects were terrible. I stopped taking it and decided to really take things into my own hands.

MY CURE: I went to my health food store. I got a bottle of 400 mg of Magnesium, A bottle of B Vitamins, but most importantly I got Dr. Ohhiras Probiotic. GET THIS PROBIOTIC! There are many on the market but I can tell you this one works the best. I have tried many that have worked but eventually stopped working.

Most importantly: Only eat whole wheat, whole grains, exercise and eat FLAXSEEDS. Every morning I wake up and eat breakfast (oatmeal with flaxseeds). When eating flaxseeds I feel my bowels moving, I drink a couple glasses of water and it isnt even an hour later I have a bowel movement. After everything I have been through I wish I would of learned about this before. I have spent so much time trying to figure this out and finally found that flaxseeds do wonders! Look them up.

So again, every morning I wake up take two magnesium, 1 b vitamin, my probiotic and eat my breakfast with flaxseeds and wa la! I have my life back. Its been a month. I have had a bowel movement sometimes two a day, everyday for the past month.
