Is further abdominal imaging suggested by gastroenterologist after the patient is referred back with abdominal discomfort not relieved by bowel movement?

Answer: IBS and Investigations

With IBS, further abdominal imaging is only required if the diagnosis is uncertain or if new symptoms occur suggesting the possibility of a second pathological cause such as cancer, inflammatory bowel problems or other disease process. If this is not the case then there is no need to investigate further. IBS symptoms do change at times and it is always worth having this checked.
