Drug: Alosetron, Lotronex

Indications: IBS Alosetron treatment in diarrhoea predominant irritable bowel syndrome, Alosetron treatment in women who have failed conventional treatment.

Caution: Serious gastrointestinal side-effects (Ischaemic colitis and perforation) can occur. Drug not licensed in the UK and only on a limited basis in the USA.

Side effects: Constipation, nausea, haemorrhoids (hemorrhoids), abdominal distension, ischaemic colitis (bowel inflammation caused by lack of blood supply to the gut) and perforation of the bowel.

Adult Dose: 1mg tablet twice a day
