HIV Testing And Premarital Results
Me and my partner are planning to get married soon. She had a few medical tests recently, but I didn’t completely understand those medical tests. The results were as follows:
-HIV1/2 antibodies Negative. -TPHA Syphilis serology Negative. -Method and test –system: ROCHE HIV COMBI Ag /Al.
I wonder whether I can trust in those above results and if she is 100% not infected by HIV?
HIV Testing and Premarital Results
Your partners HIV test results are NEGATIVE. This means on that day she didn’t have any antibodies in her blood detected against the HIV virus. However, this doesn’t fully exclude HIV as there is a window between infection and so called seroconversion where antibodies are raised against the virus. This usually occurs within 30 days of infection and rarely up to 6 months. So, to be certain the only way to tell is to be retested at 30 days and 6 months respectively and condom or barrier protection as contraception should always be used. If you have been with your partner for longer than 6 months and are sure of her fidelity then this should not be an issue to you. The TPHA Syphilis test was negative too so It means that she hasn’t had syphilis in the past.
What does this HIV result mean to you? If you love your partner, then in my opinion the results of the above tests are irrelevant as you will marry her anyway in sickness and in health. If you are that suspicious of her health, you have to ask yourself are you really doing the right thing. In my opinion starting your married life with such suspicion is unhealthy to a marriage. However, I appreciate that if there are concerns over sexual health then this is important to address. I hope the HIV result interpretation has helped allay any concerns that you may have.
