High protein in urine during pregnancy
by Cassie
(Wisconsin)
I am 24 years old I am 25 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child. I have had protein in my urine most of my pregnancy, but not usually over +1. They had me do a 24 hour urine collection because at 24 weeks it was +2. No one has given me the results but my doctor had me come in for a nurse check of my BP, urine sample, and weight. My weight has come down 2 pounds, my bp was 130/86 and today there was +4 protein in my urine. Should I be concerned about the +4? They also brought in the portable u/s machine to make sure baby was moving fine. I feel like no one is telling me anything. My doctor was in surgery so they told me to come back next Wednesday for another nurse check.
I had mild Pre-E with my oldest son 5 years ago, it was after 36 weeks and i was induced at 39weeks. My mother had horrible toxemia with all of her pregnancies we were all preemies. I do not smoke, nor drink.
Protein and Pre-eclampsiaThe protein in the urine is concerning as it suggests you could be developing pre-eclampsia again. Your blood pressure is being monitored which is the right thing to do. There are lots of other causes of protein in the urine, but these seem much less likely than the risk of pre-eclampsia. Your OBG will look after you and advise on this.
