high blood pressure

I am 28year old female with fluctuating blood pressure (i.e. 130/100, 140/90/ 150/100/ 130/90. 140/80) and headache with some weight loss. I have had E/U done, Lipid profile done, Thyroid function test and CT brain done. My current diagnosis is essential Hypertension, hence was placed on Normoretic (1 daily) but am worried about commencing the medication. I am just too young to start such a treatment, PLEASE WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? SHOULD I COMMENCE? WOULD I HAVE REBOUND HYPERTENSION SHOULD I FAIL TO ADHERE? SHOULD I GO FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS?I have no significant past history, I’m not taking any drugs. Both my parents are hypertensive. I’ve tried exercise, fruits and a low salt diet.

Hypertension History

Thanks for getting in touch about your hypertension history. You clearly have a history of hypertension and your doctor is right to want to consider treatment for this. You have tried conservative measures such as diet and exercise without success and I note your family history too. You doctor wants to put you on a combination drug called Normoretic which contains a combination of Amiloride Hcl 5mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 50mg. This is fine, although personally I would treat someone of your age with an ACE inhibitor such as Enalapril or Perindopril. Would you get rebound hypertension if you fail to adhere? Why should you not adhere? You are at increased risk of stroke and heart problems with your hypertension, strong incentives to comply. It sounds as if your doctor has done all the normal investigations and more so I would advise you take your doctors advice. Good luck!
