extreme pain after using a sun bed! =(

by syndi
(south london)

I spent ten minutes under a sun bed. Within four hours I was completely red, this has now turned darker and a more constant pain to the point where I have huge difficulty lying down or walking, or touching. My face is swollen, my lips are bright purple, I'm absolutely freezing even though I have a thick duvet around me, my body keeps shaking, and I have weird slow but fast shaken breathing, I am also very achy quivery and fatigued.

Do I need to go to the hospital or are cold showers and cool aloe gel sufficient enough for speedy healing?

Thanks for reading this, would be much appreciated if you could get back to me =)

Possible Second Degree
Burns from sun bed

From your description it sounds as if you have developed second degree burns. The shivering is due to the inflammatory reaction, but it could also indicate infection in the burns. You may notice blistering occurring in due course.

My advice would be to seek medical help as this needs to be assessed properly. Yes I would go to your local accident and emergency department for assessment. They can advise you on the best way to manage your burns and give you antibiotics if needed. They can also sort out any dressings that you need for your burns too.

I would suggest taking a Paracetamol now as it will help to reduce the shivering and feeling of cold as it works as an antipyretic to reduce your temperature as well as being a painkiller. I hope this helps and good luck to you. Dont forget to post a comment to update us!
