Excess Period for 20 days
by SM
(Dubai)
I am 32 years old and have been going through irregular periods for a long time. I have been diagnosed by my Gynaecologist with PCOD or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
Recently I have lost 12 kgs in two months with natural treatment which includes food diet. I have got my period spotting since 09 Aug 2011. My periods started flowing normal by 30 Aug 2011. Since that date I am bleeding and sometimes it comes as blood clots.
I am working, but it is extremely difficult to carry this for long. Do you think I should visit a doctor to stop the bleeding or should I wait to stop the bleeding naturally.
PCOS and Bleeding
Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a condition that affects a lot of women. It is characterised by cysts forming with the ovaries and is often associated with such as mood swings, greasy skin, acne, tiredness, hirsuitism (excessive body hair) and menstrual period irregularities. It is also characterised by excessive testosterone levels and insulin resistance. It can be associated with infertility in some women too.
You haven't actually been bleeding for 20 days, infact you have been bleeding for 39 days. This is excessive and needs to be controlled. If not, you are likely to become anaemic and feel unwell, tired, breathless and dizzy. Your doctor will be able to help you with this, check to make sure you are not anaemic and also examine you to make sure there are no other problems concerning your PCOS and bleeding. You may need to consider hormone manipulative therapy or a coil as a way of stopping the bleeding. It really depends whether you want to have children in the future or not. If the above fails then surgical options could also be explored with you. It seems unlikely this is going to settle naturally as it has already been going on for so long.
