Difficulties in Processing Information in Adults
by Ummi
(United Kingdom)
I've been having difficulties in processing information and putting them into words lately. I knew what I wanted to say, but always ended up saying something that was not exactly what I had in mind, but had similarities such as synonyms and could even describe the opposite of what I meant, just to get to the point. E.g. "I couldn't find the paper which they give you after you pay at stores, like bills in restaurant." In this sentence, I was looking for a receipt.
I also keep getting lost midway in accomplishing something. E.g. I opened my drawer to look for a pen, then I ended up picking something else and closed it. After a while only would I realised I was not getting what I intended.
It is now getting worst. Do I have a disorder or something?
Brains ability to process information
Hi Ummi and thanks for your submission. It does sound to me as if there is a problem with your brains ability to process information and I think you need to get this checked. There are numerous reasons why this maybe happening, but you will need to have some further investigations done. Examples of conditions that can cause this do including brain disorders such as Alzheimers dementia and multi-infarct dementia, but also hormonal conditions such as an underactive thyroid gland, psychological conditions such as depression and even prescribed drugs can cause this.
I suspect your doctor will arrange a scan of your brain and a neurological (nerve doctor) opinion on you. Its possible that you may have had a form of stroke or other brain disturbance so please pop along to your GP to get this checked as soon as possible. Please let me know how you get on to and good luck!
