Could this cause someone to become pregnant?

I am a 25 year old male, and my girlfriend is a 20 year old female. We were toying with each other the other day, and I got some pre-ejaculate on my hand, wiped it off, and then proceeded to toy with her vagina with my hand. I did not wash my hands in between. My girlfriend just got through with her period, and said it's not her time, but we are still both worried that there's some possibility that she could become pregnant. I tried to calm her down and assure her that because I wiped off my hand, it wouldn't happen, but I can't say it with 100% certainty. We are both just a little worried about this, and would like to know if there is any chance, and how much of a chance there is of that happening. Thanks.

Inadvertent Insemination

Inadvertent insemination like this is technically possible, although in reality the probability is low particularly as the pH of the outer vaginal area is hostile to sperm. Also, your girlfriend had only just had her period.

If you are concerned about this, depending on the timeframe, your girlfriend could look at the 'morning-after pill' which can be used up to 120 hours (5 days) after although ideally within the first 3 days. The earlier its used, the more effective it is and is usually available from health centres or pharmacies.

Percentage risk of pregnancy
by: Peter

I can't really be precise with a percentage figure as no one has done a study on this sort of thing and clearly it wouldn't be ethical to do such a study! I suspect the risk would be less than 1%, but don't take this as read.

Thanks

Thank you so much for answering my questions, we really appreciate it. We know we have to be extremely careful from here on out, all it took was once to realize that. If I can pester you with just one more question, just to ease my girlfriend's thoughts - you stated that there is a slight chance for pregnancy, and I was wondering exactly how big the chance was, say statistically or percentage-wise. Again, thank you so much for these questions.

As I have said, the probability is very small, but in theory you could have sperm on your hand. It depends on the balance of risk that you wish to take.

By doing what you did, you accepted there was a tiny risk in the same way that we accept other risks every day. You can never say in this situation that it can never happen,as it can, in the same way someone entering a lottery can win the jackpot, although most would accept that it is very unlikely.

If you don't want to run the risk of pregnancy, you have to practice safe sex.

So even though I wiped my hand dry before touching her, there's still a possibility that she could get pregnant because I didn't wash my hand?
