Spider Bite
Spider Bite PhotoMy girlfriend has this bite on her knee I have a picture of it. We are not sure what it is and she cant afford to go in. Answer: Symptoms Of A Spider BiteThis looks like a spider bite photo, although any insect bite or even snake bite can cause a similar picture. Symptoms of a spider bite include pain, swelling, redness and fever. In some, this can lead to cardiovascular compromise, collapse and death if severe. There are many possible causes, but a likely contender would be a brown recluse spider. This is one of few spiders that can cause a serious bite. The bite normally develops within 12 hours of contact with the spider. If you cant get to a hospital, apply ice to the area, take an antipyretic pain killer such as Paracetamol and an antihistamine to reduce the symptoms of a spider bite. Sometimes applying a paste of baking soda mixed in water (3 to 1) can help too. If the redness is getting worse, your girlfriend must see a doctor as she may need antibiotics and further treatment. In extreme cases surgery is undertaken. My name is Dr Peter Thatcher MBBS, MRCPI and I am a consultant physician and gastroenterologist in the UK.
