Methylcellulose fiber
or Celevac for
IBS
or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Constipation, Chronic diarrhea associated with diverticular disease.
Other drug names: Celevac
Cautions: In people with decreased bowel motility or intestinal narrowing, adequate
fluid intake needs to be maintained to prevent intestinal obstruction.
Contra-indications: Difficulty in swallowing, intestinal obstruction, Impacted stool, Colonic
atony.
Side effects: Flatulance, abdominal distension, hypersensitivity to drug, bowel obstruction
Adult Dose: 3-6 tablets twice a day with at least 300ml water if constipated. If diarrhoea
then minimise the liquid intake for 30 minutes before and after the dose.
Methylcellulose fiber
for IBS may play a role, particularly with diarrhea symptoms.
