Indications
Chronic diarrhoea, acute diarrhoea to aid rehydration

Cautions
Cautions: May cause drowsiness - avoid driving or operating machinery in this situation. May cause abdominal distention.
Contraindications
Acute diarrhoea conditions such as acute inflammatory colitis or antibiotic associated colitis.
Loperamide side effects
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, drowsiness, low blood pressure
Adult dose
Loperamide 4mg initially, followed by 2mg after each loose stool (max. 16mg a day)

A tried and tested “friend” to a lot of chronic diarrhea sufferers, Loperamide has clear benefit when symptoms are bad. A useful addition to any sufferers “armoury” when symptoms are bad. Caution though as too much use can cause constipation.
