Indications
Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Constipation, Chronic diarrhoea associated with diverticular disease.

Ispaghula Husk, Konsyl, Isogel, Regulan.
Cautions
In people with decreased bowel motility or intestinal narrowing, adequate fluid intake needs to be maintained to prevent intestinal obstruction.
Contraindications
Difficulty in swallowing, intestinal obstruction, Impacted stool, Colonic atony.

Flatulance, abdominal distension, hypersensitivity to drug, bowel obstruction
Adult dose
Depends on prep. Ispaghula husk dose is usually 1 sachet in water twice a day.

A commonly used preparation prescribed by doctors, but not always effective or appropriate. It does have a role to play, particularly in IBS-C, although can make symptoms worse in some sufferers. It’s a drug worth trying in constipation. It comes in sachet which are original or orange flavour which you mix up in water.
