Codeine Phosphate treatment in IBS
Indications:
Codeine Phosphate
for
IBS
(unlicensed in UK), Chronic diarrhoea, Analgesia (Pain relief)
Drug names: Diarrest, Kaodene
Cautions: May cause drowsiness - avoid driving or operating machinery
in this situation. May cause abdominal distention.
Contraindications: Acute diarrhoea conditions such as acute inflammatory colitis
or antibiotic associated colitis.

Side effects: Nausea, vomiting, constipation, drowsiness, low blood pressure
Adult Drug dose: Codeine Phosphate 30mg three to four times a day (range 15mg to 60mg)
Formulations: Tablets, Codeine syrup, Liquid combination preparations
